Overview
This project focused on designing an aesthetic and functional air purifier that also includes a humidifier feature, using a pre-existing internal mechanism. The goal was to transform a traditionally utilitarian product into an elegant object that users would be proud to display in their living spaces—blending technology with design.
Challenge
The key challenge was to create a fresh design language using fixed internal components and strict dimensional constraints, which limited flexibility in proportions. Additionally, the product had to communicate its dual functionality (purifier + humidifier) clearly, without adding visual clutter. Balancing functional clarity with visual harmony was a central concern throughout the process.
Role & Responsibilities
I was responsible for the full industrial design process—research, concept development, 3D modeling, and visual detailing. I worked closely with engineering constraints and production teams to ensure that aesthetic decisions remained feasible without compromising the internal layout.
Result
The final design presents a visually refined air purifier that integrates a humidifier within a single, sculptural form. It successfully blends technical precision with emotional design, making it a centerpiece rather than an appliance to hide. Key features—such as the exposed water tank and the distinctive air outlet—help users immediately understand the product's dual role while reinforcing its presence as a design object in the home.

I began with a competitive analysis to understand how air purifiers and humidifiers are typically perceived and used. I found that many products lacked emotional appeal and were often hidden away due to their clinical, appliance-like appearance. This inspired me to create a design that felt inviting, expressive, and display-worthy.

The design language was refined to be minimal yet warm, ensuring that technical features were visually integrated into the overall form. Transitions between parts were softened, materials were selected to create contrast and clarity, and overall composition was tailored to express calm, health, and quality.

To subtly communicate the humidifier function, I visually emphasized the water tank as a focal point—bringing softness, clarity, and functionality to the surface. The air outlet was also designed with care, not only to support airflow but to act as a sculptural design element, enhancing the product’s vertical balance and visual identity.
